Show Google Drive images and videos

If your photos and promo videos already live in Google Drive, you don't need to download and upload them again. Connect Drive once, pick the files, and use them in playlists like any other media.

What you can use from Drive

• Images: PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP and SVG.
• Videos: MP4, WebM and MOV. Like all video on CastWize, they play muted.

Screens can't show PDF files. Export the pages as images and pick those instead. Google Sheets, Slides and Docs aren't media files either; show them with the Google Sheets, Slides and Docs widgets.

Steps: connect Drive and pick files

1. In Studio, open Media Library and click Import from Drive.
2. Click Connect Google Drive and sign in with the Google account that holds the files. You only do this once.
3. Google's file picker opens. It shows your Drive and files shared with you. Select up to 50 images or videos at a time.
4. Confirm your selection. The files appear in the Media Library with a small Drive badge ("Linked from Google Drive").
5. Add them to slides in a playlist as usual. See Build a playlist.

Next time, Import from Drive opens the picker straight away.

Are my files copied to CastWize?

No. Picked files stay in your Drive and are linked, not copied. Each screen downloads its own copy to play, so a short Wi-Fi drop doesn't blank the screen.

How do I change a file on the screens?

1. In Google Drive, right-click the file and choose Manage versions (in some versions of Drive it is under File information).
2. Upload the new version of the same file.
3. The screens show the new version at their next sync. You don't need to touch CastWize.

Uploading a new file with a different name doesn't replace the old one. A new file has to be picked in CastWize again.

Can CastWize see everything in my Drive?

No. CastWize can only open the files you pick in Google's picker. It can't list or open anything else.

How do I switch accounts or disconnect?

Click the small arrow next to Import from Drive. It shows which Google account is connected, with Disconnect Google Drive and, usually, Switch Google account. After you disconnect, or remove CastWize's access in your Google account, linked files stop updating on the screens.
