Clock and countdown widgets.

A live clock, today's date and a countdown to your next event, placed anywhere on a slide or in their own zone.

Time on screen, without a separate wall clock

A clock is one of the most useful things a public screen can show. In a waiting room it reassures people, in a gym it times the next class, in an office it sits quietly in the corner of the announcements screen. A countdown builds anticipation for a sale, an opening or an event.

CastWize has three time widgets. The Clock shows the current time in hours and minutes. The Date shows the weekday and full date. The Countdown counts down in days, hours, minutes and seconds to a date you set, with a label underneath such as "Grand opening" or "Summer sale ends".

All three use a clock shared with the CastWize server rather than trusting each device's own clock, so screens in the same room don't disagree by a minute, and a countdown hits zero at the same moment on every screen.

Who puts a clock or countdown on screen

Clinics and waiting rooms

A clock beside the queue number and health information.

Gyms and fitness studios

The time next to today's class schedule, so members know what's next.

Retail and events

A countdown to a launch, a sale ending or doors opening, in the window or at the entrance.

How to add a clock or countdown to a screen

  1. 1

    Open a slide

In Studio, open a playlist and add a slide, or open one you already use.

  2. 2

    Add a Widget object

Add a Widget and choose Clock, Date or Countdown.

  3. 3

    Set up the countdown

The clock and date need no settings. For a countdown, enter the target date and a label in the widget's settings, for example { "targetDate": "2026-12-31T00:00:00Z", "label": "New Year" }.

  4. 4

    Place it

Drag and resize the widget: a corner of a menu board, a strip along the bottom, or full screen for a big countdown.

  5. 5

    Publish

Publish to your screens. To keep a clock on screen all the time, give it its own zone in a split-screen layout.

How the widgets behave

Clock
Hours and minutes, updated every second, in the player device's time zone and time format (12- or 24-hour, depending on the device's language settings).
Date
The weekday and full date in the device's language, for example Monday, 12 October 2026.
Countdown
Days, hours, minutes and seconds to the target, then holds at zero once the moment has passed.
Same time on every screen
The widgets use a server-corrected clock, so a device whose clock has drifted still shows the right time.

Requirements and limits

  • The clock is digital (no analog face) and shows hours and minutes, not seconds.
  • The time zone and 12/24-hour format follow the player device's own settings; there's no per-widget time-zone setting, so set the device's time zone correctly.
  • The date is set when its slide loads; on a screen that shows the same slide past midnight, it updates the next time the slide comes round.
  • The countdown's target time is entered as a date and time, with Z for UTC or an offset such as +02:00 for local time.
  • Clock, date and countdown work offline once loaded, because they're drawn on the device.
