Video wall sync.

Arrange ordinary TVs in a grid, give them one playlist, and CastWize spans the picture across them and keeps them in step.

One picture across many screens, from ordinary hardware

A video wall is a grid of screens that together show one large picture: two TVs side by side in a shop window, a 2 × 2 wall in a lobby, a long row above a counter. Traditionally that needs a dedicated video-wall controller. With CastWize it needs one player per screen and a few minutes in Studio.

You tell CastWize the size of the wall (rows and columns) and which screen hangs where. Each player then shows only its own section of the picture, and screens on the wall share one timeline: slides change at the same moment, shuffle into the same order, and videos are kept in step by tiny adjustments to their playback speed, with a jump only when a screen falls too far behind.

Because every wall screen is a normal CastWize screen, you also get the usual tools: remote screenshots of every panel, per-screen health, and the same playlists and schedules as the rest of your screens.

Who builds video walls

Retail windows and showrooms

Two or four TVs side by side make a large, eye-catching display for a fraction of the cost of one huge screen.

Lobbies and receptions

A brand video or welcome message spanning a 2 × 2 or 3 × 3 wall.

Venues and gyms

A row of screens above a bar or a studio floor showing one wide picture.

How to set up a video wall in CastWize

  1. 1

Pair a player for every screen

Each panel needs its own player (an Android box, a PC, a Mac or a Pi). Pair each one under Screens → Add screen as usual.

  2. 2

    Create the wall

In Studio, open Screens → Video walls and create a wall with its number of rows and columns (up to 20 × 20).

  3. 3

    Arrange the screens

Choose Arrange and drag each screen into its position in the grid. Studio shows the picture each panel will get.

  4. 4

    Design at the wall's size

Studio tells you the size to design at, for example 3840 × 1080 for two screens side by side, so the content isn't cropped.

  5. 5

Give every screen the same playlist

Assign one playlist to all the wall's screens; Studio warns you if one screen is playing something different. Publish, and the wall plays as one picture.

  6. 6

    Compensate for bezels

If the screen frames hide part of the picture, set each screen's edge insets in pixels so lines and text line up across the gaps.

Requirements and limits

  • One CastWize player per screen. A single PC can't drive several panels of the wall.
  • Every screen on the wall needs the same playlist (and the same zone layout) to form one picture.
  • Synchronisation is very close but not frame-accurate: videos are kept within a few hundredths of a second when the players can keep up. Live streams are not synchronised.
  • Content made for one 1080p screen gets cropped on a wide wall, so design at the size Studio suggests, or use the image focus setting to choose what stays visible.
  • Use the same player type and similar TVs across a wall for the most even result. On a Raspberry Pi, video is decoded in software, so test video walls on Pis carefully.
  • Every wall screen counts as a screen: a 2 × 2 wall is four screens at $5 each per month.
