Google Sheets, Slides & Docs on a TV.
Publish a Google file to the web, add the matching CastWize widget, and the screen shows the published version.
Keep using Google, show the result on a screen
Lots of teams already keep their screen content in Google: a rota or a price list in Sheets, a weekly announcements deck in Slides, a notice in Docs, the events calendar in Google Calendar. Re-creating it in a signage tool every week is busywork.
CastWize has widgets for Google Slides, Google Sheets, Google Docs, Google Calendar and Google Maps. Each one shows Google's own published embed of the file inside a slide, full screen or in one zone. You keep editing in Google, and the screen shows the published version.
There's no Google sign-in involved: the widgets use the file's "Publish to the web" link, so nothing in your Google account is shared with CastWize beyond what you choose to publish.
Who uses Google files on their screens
Offices
A KPI table or team rota from Sheets, and the week's announcements from Slides, in the lobby or kitchen.
Schools
Timetables in Sheets and the events calendar from Google Calendar on corridor screens.
Small businesses
A price list kept in Sheets, or a Slides deck of offers that staff can edit without touching the signage.
How to show a Google Sheet or Slides deck on a TV
- 1
Publish the file to the web
In Google Sheets, Slides or Docs, choose File → Share → Publish to web, then publish. (A calendar needs to be public, or use its embed link.)
- 2
Add the widget to a slide
In Studio, open a playlist, add a slide, add a Widget object and choose Google Sheets, Google Slides, Google Docs, Google Calendar or Google Maps.
- 3
Tell the widget which file
Enter the file's ID from its address in the widget's settings (for example { "sheetId": "…" }), or paste the full embed link from the Publish to web dialog as embedUrl.
- 4
Place it and publish
Size the widget to fill the slide or one part of it, give the slide a duration, and publish to your screens.
What each widget shows
- Google Slides
- The published deck, advancing by itself and looping. By default each slide shows for 5 seconds; use the embed link from Publish to web to choose a different delay.
- Google Sheets
- The published sheet as a table, without the editing toolbar.
- Google Docs
- The published document, for notices and longer text.
- Google Calendar and Maps
- A public calendar by its ID or embed link, and a map by search query ("Eiffel Tower") or embed link.
Requirements and limits
- Files must be published to the web (Sheets, Slides, Docs) or public (Calendar). Private files can't be shown, because CastWize doesn't sign in to your Google account.
- What appears is Google's published copy. Edits reach it when Google republishes the file (automatic unless you turned that off) and the slide reloads on the screen.
- The widgets need a live internet connection; they aren't cached for offline playback.
- Widget settings are entered as a short line of configuration text for now; the file ID or embed link is all you need.
- Google Docs, Sheets and Slides files can't be imported into the Media Library as media files. To show a deck offline, export its slides as images and upload them.
Want slides that keep playing through internet drops? Export the deck as PNG images and upload them. Our guide to showing Google Slides or PowerPoint on a TV compares both approaches.
